Inspired by something Fred said yesterday, and a quote I saw today.
“Tant que vous n’avez pas aimé un animal , une partie de votre âme sera toujours sans éclat , endormie.” Anatole France.
Loving an animal is giving
without expectation of reward,
learning patience through a fog of incomprehension,
looking into eyes to see friendship, trust,
not the reflection of our own desires.

of a being created from the wind,
born in the wild,
that place we left so long ago
in exchange for a mirage.
It is recognizing our lack,
that we are only animal-shadow,
lost in the meanders of our egoism.
